Labor Day Weekend

We had a wonderful weekend away in Brown County, Indiana with mom over Labor Day weekend. It was a girls weekend..with just mom, Jen, me, Samantha, & Leslie. No guys and no kids! We did a little shopping..talking..relaxing..and just fully enjoyed the scenery and rocking chairs on the front porch of our hotel. This is definitely a tradition we will continue to do every year!!

We drank coffee and ate breakfast here every morning.

Super neat shop..with such a familiar name.

The girls tried the different types of beer at the brewery..while mom and I enjoyed caramel apples!

At the gardens of this super cute place we ate lunch. It was in the middle of nowhere..but completely worth the trip of getting lost to find it!

We stopped at a little antique store on our way back from lunch. These kids were playing checkers and I had to capture the moment!

Vacation 2011 - OBX

We're packing everything up. And I've decided this is the first year that I really haven't been ready to go home by the end of the week. I think I could stay another week and just enjoy the sun and relaxation!

My snack on the beach this year has been an apple each day. McKenna demanded that she have some of my apple. She was sitting on my towel with me and climbed right up in my face to watch me eat it.

I let her chew on the core once I was done..and she LOVED it! She could only get little bits off with her 2 lil teeth..but she chewed on it for a good 15 minutes.

Mom showed McKenna how to play the piano and she thoroughly enjoyed it. I videoed them for awhile to capture the moment. It's crazy that she's almost a year old already!!

Our view from the deck. We enjoyed many evenings sitting outside.

Baby Showers

Both of my baby showers were this past weekend. I had them early because we go on vacation in a few weeks and then once school starts..our lives are non-existent. Although it was overwhelming to know that I had to find a place for everything, I was thankful that we are loved by many who shared in these special celebrations with me! Below are some pictures from each shower. I didn't get very many duplicates..maybe just a few items..which was great!! And everything is all put away and the room is ready to go...just waiting on her.

Veggies on the Grill

I love summertime! I especially love all the fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as being able to use the grill everyday, instead of heating up the house by using the oven. Our favorite thing to cook on the grill, besides meat, is fresh veggies!! We usually do potatoes, carrots, onion, and green & red peppers. We also like to throw in some asparagus, sweet potatoes, squash, or zucchini.

Slice all veggies evenly.
Place on foil. (I make my own foil bag.)

We sprinkle Mrs. Dash over our veggies. You can also just do salt and pepper, or any other seasonings of your choice.
Add a few tablespoons of butter.
Close up your bag, making sure there are no holes for the juices to escape.
Place on grill. We set our grill between low and medium and flip the bag every 10-15 minutes. We let it cook a total of 40-45 minutes, depending on how full we have the bag.
(And yes! It was raining..and I was grilling brats and veggies!! We need a covered porch..but for now, grilling in the rain works!)

Voila!! Finished product! I was barely able to snap this picture before the rest of the veggies were devoured! We love veggies like this..it's definitely a perk of summer. However, you can do this same thing in the oven..but I'd make sure you put the foil bag on a baking sheet, just in case it leaks juices.
